Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Eagle Heights Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)?

The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) works to provide support to the students, faculty, and staff of Eagle Heights. We do this through fundraising to support student and staff needs, organizing volunteers for school events, and helping to coordinate activities.

What’s the difference between the EHSI PTO and the Spanish Education Fund (SEF)?

The SEF supports the International Teaching Intern Program and maintains the budget for that program. The PTO supports the students, parents and faculty at Eagle Heights.

The SEF group runs separately from the PTO in terms of having their own board, budget, and staff, but we do work together to ensure that our students and staff are supported.

Who is in the PTO?

Our PTO is made up of parent/guardian of an EHSI student, plus, some professional staff at EHSI. Many parents volunteer their time to the PTO through lending a hand in coordinating or attending many activities. The PTO has an Executive Board, made up of a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Communications & Volunteer Coordinators and Secretary. The coordinators of our school fundraiser, Maraton de Lectura, are also on the board.

I work outside of the home - can I still volunteer?

Yes! Many of our PTO board members and volunteers help out based upon their own schedule and availability. We have many volunteer opportunities that can be done with flexible hours outside of the work day. Contact us to learn more!

When does the PTO meet?

The PTO meetings are held throughout the year. We generally meet from 5:30-7:00 pm once a month, usually the second Sunday of the month. Reach out to our email if you’re interested in joining. We can always use more help!  All parents and faculty are welcome to attend. From time to time, we have guest presenters for projects and discussions.

What happens at PTO meetings? Why should I come?

A top reason to attend a general PTO meeting is to find out what is happening in our school! The Principal and a teacher representative for each team attends each meeting, and provides an update on school activities, how the school is going, new initiatives, and can answer questions. PTO representatives will also give brief updates on PTO activities, including activities that are being planned, and anticipated volunteer needs.

What happens to the money raised by the PTO?

Money raised by the PTO sponsored events helps purchase supplemental materials for EHSI students and staff. One hundred percent of the money raised through PTO goes directly back to benefit the EHSI students. PTO’s role has become even more critical as we raise funds to supplement the cost of the schools’ needs. In the past, some of these extras have included:

  • Additional resources for the media center
  • Playground equipment
  • Social events
  • Family Nights
  • Teacher appreciation
  • Open house
  • Recess equipment
  • Buses for field trips
  • Book fairs, which provide more books for the library
