Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference from EHSI’s PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) and SEF (Spanish Education Fund)?

The SEF group runs separate, but parallel, to the PTO. The SEF supports the International Teaching Intern Program and maintains the budget for that program. The PTO supports the students, parents and faculty at Eagle Heights.

What is the Eagle Heights PTO?

The PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) is a group of parent volunteers, and EHSI staff who help in the school community. The PTO organizes many special days throughout the year and provides volunteers to run the book fair, chaperone special events, and much more. See the Get Involved page for a complete list.

Who is in the PTO?

Any parent/guardian of an EHSI student, plus, some professional staff at EHSI are members of the PTO. Many parents volunteer time to the PTO by lending a hand to one of the many activities. The PTO has an Executive Board, made up of a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Communications & Volunteer Coordinators and Secretary.

I work outside of the home - can I still volunteer?

Yes! Many of our PTO board members and volunteers help out based upon their own schedule availability. We have many volunteer opportunities that can be done with flexible hours outside of the work day. Contact us to learn more!

When does the PTO meet?

The PTO meetings are held throughout the year. Consult the calendar for meeting dates/times/details. All parents and faculty are welcome to attend. From time to time, we have guest presenters for projects and discussions.

What happens at PTO meetings and why should I come?

The top reason to come to a PTO meeting is to become knowledgeable about what is happening in the school. The Principal and a teacher representative for each team attends each meeting. PTO representatives will also give brief updates on PTO activities.

What happens to the money raised by the PTO?

Money raised by the PTO sponsored events helps purchase supplemental materials for EHSI students and staff. One hundred percent of the money raised through PTO goes directly back to benefit the EHSI students. PTO’s role has become even more critical as we raise funds to supplement the cost of the schools’ needs. In the past, some of these extras have included:

  • Additional resources for the media center
  • Playground equipment
  • Social events
  • Family Nights
  • Teacher appreciation
  • Open house
  • Recess equipment
  • Buses for field trips
  • Book fairs, which provided more books for the library
