From this past fall through spring, thirty 5th grades students participated in regularly scheduled Unified Club meetings to help promote the Special Olympics of Minnesota’s goal of inclusion of students of all abilities within the school community. Activities included raising awareness to stop using derogatory language via the “R-Word” Campaign, participating in the Polar Plunge, and even giving presentations to 2nd grade classes.
EHSI was also recognized for being the first ever elementary school in MN to attain “Unified Champion” status. To obtain this status, a school most commit to implement and sustain 3 components of the Unified School Program – youth leadership and advocacy, unified sports, and whole school engagement. We are currently the only school in the Eden Prairie School district as well as the only elementary school in the state with this designation. Our 5th graders have demonstrated compassion and commitment to inclusion within our community. Thank you to teacher Katie Hellen for her work in creating the Unified Club Special Olympics of Minnesota at Eagle Heights!
We love our teachers and staff at EHSI!
Today (5/3), teachers and staff from Oak Point and EHSI were treated to lunch by both PTOs. The spread included sub sandwiches, veggies, fruit, chips, cookies, and beverages.
Yay for EHSI 6th graders! They partnered with Athletes Answer to Hunger and Harvest Pack to pack over 9,000 meals! These meals will be donated to “Good in the Hood” and will stay LOCAL! 500 Shoes were also collected to be donated to “Good in the Hood.” Thanks to everyone who donated!! A big thanks to EHSI parent Kelly Hedlund for coordinating the event!
